Human Resources Management is an arena into which I was thrown this past summer. As I transitioned from K-12 Dean to my current role as High School principal, I had the opportunity to hire a number of new teachers. That process meant reflecting on my coursework (below) and digging through HR resources and policies currently in existence in my school. The focus on hiring quickly changed to retention as the school year began so I immersed myself in the collective bargaining agreement, worked to further develop our teacher-mentor program for novice staff, and brushed up on my knowledge of regulatory guidance involving personnel. I also worked with my Elementary counterpart to select and apply a more efficient and substantive evaluation and supervision process.
